  SKYWARN TRAINING

The Barron County Emergency Management Office has scheduled a Skywarn
Training Class to be held at the Barron County Courthouse Auditorium on
Monday, March 7, 2005. Two classes are scheduled to allow those
interested to attend the class of their choice. The first class will be
at 1:00 p.m. and the second class at 7:00 p.m. The class is
approximately 2 ½ hours.

A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Meteorologist from the
Chanhassen, Minnesota Weather Center will conduct the training. Slide
shows, videos, and the meteorologist's experiences will enable
participants to recognize downbursts, sheer clouds, wall clouds and
other severe weather. Upon completion of the training, interested
participants will be certified as spotters and given a toll-free number
directly into NOAA. Radar can only read a certain amount of
information. Having trained weather spotters speeds up the notification
process, giving people more time to prepare for severe weather.

There is no cost for this training and pre-registration is not
required. Persons already certified are encouraged to return for a
refresher class.
