Wesley Jones , 81, of Shell Lake, died on Saturday, May 28, 2005, at
Spooner Nursing Home.
He was born on July 8, 1923, in Naugatuck, Conn., to Watson and Selma
(Peck) Jones and graduated from Naugatuck High School in 1940.
Wesley was a veteran of World War II and fought in the Battle of the
Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
Wesley obtained degrees from the University of Connecticut and
University of Massachusetts. As a wildlife biologist, he spent most of
his career working for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, either in
National Wildlife Refuges Programs or the Animal Damage Control Program.
Wesley married Barbara Hungerford on April 27, 1957, in Plymouth Conn.
His special interests were bird banding, fly fishing, hunting, and
amateur radio. He was one of the founding members of NORWESCO RACES
(Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service) and also of the NORWESCO RACES
Skyworn volunteer network.
He is survived by his wife, of Shell Lake; his daughter, Lisa (Jim)
Thompson of Sandy, Utah; his son, Douglas, of Willard, Utah; and twin
granddaughters, Cheyenne and Hannah Thompson.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at Pockat
Funeral Home in Shell Lake. Waldo Asp will officiate.
Burial of cremains will be in Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial
Cemetery, Spooner. Military honors will be accorded by the Wisconsin
Military Honors Team.
Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Pockat Funeral Home and
will be held for one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the charity of one's choice are
preferred by the family.
